The Story Of Our Packaging

The Story Of Our Packaging

Our paper is not the run of any old mill...

Our commitment to creating beautiful, ethical chocolate continues right down to our packaging, whose story begins in the Swedish village of Munkedal, about 100 km north of Göteborg, in probably one of the most beautifully-situated paper mills in the world.

The site was settled on 800 years ago by monks, who later gave their name to the estate, the paper mill, the village, the district and now, the paper. Where the Munkedal and Örekil Rivers meet, the monks used to fish for salmon, and the Örekil River is still considered one of Sweden’s finest salmon rivers.

Inspired by the surrounding nature, at the core of Munkendal Mill’s production is great awareness and care for the local environment. The mill, with its own hydropower plant, is one of the world’s most environmentally friendly paper mills, and Munken card is FSC® certified – the mark of responsible forestry.

From an aesthetic perspective, Munken paper gives an extra dimension and tonal contrast to our designs, whilst the smooth surface adds a natural feel.

We like to put our left over Ocelot packaging in the art box, and to make collage work with it. Do you ever find a good use for our packaging after you’ve eaten the chocolate? Let us know if so!
